Celebrate Native American Heritage Month at the Library!

The library will have a display of materials for all ages by Native American Authors; Cynthia Leitich Smith, Joe S. Sando, Sherman Alexie, Leslie Marmon Silko, Joy Harjo, Tim Tingle, Simon Ortiz, Emmett Garcia, and many more! The display will also include history and contemporary issues facing Native American tribes. “We Shall Remain” PBS Series is available at the library for viewing.

Laguna Pueblo Materials and Books are available as references for the community; photos, language book, and the Winter Tales book! Some photos do not have descriptions so please stop by the library to help us identify the place or person(s) in the photo. These are reprints from various research libraries/archives that Liz Wacondo obtained on her research travels.

Laguna Tribal Employees

Veterans Day Exhibit

The library is creating an exhibit for the month of November for Veterans Day. We are looking for pictures and/or stories to display at the library. If you are interested in letting the library borrow pictures, please bring them to the library or call Lynnelle Aragon, (505) 552-6280.



The 2nd Annual Tribal Libraries Fundraiser Silent/Live Auction and Dinner held October 10, 2009 had a good turnout! Thank you to everyone who attended; all the artists who donated; the entertainers; and the staff at Route 66 for making this a success!


Our next fundraising event will be a Tribal Libraries Fundraising Exhibit at the Poeh Museum in Pojoaque, a few miles north of Santa Fe. The exhibit will run from April 2nd – July 3rd, 2010, with an elegant Opening Reception from 6-8 pm on Friday, April 2nd. This is an opportunity for artists to display in a well-attended beautiful space as well as support New Mexico Tribal Libraries. The New Mexico Library Foundation, a 501(c)(3) corporation is the fiscal agent, making all donated art works eligible for tax deductions for participating artists. End of the Summer Reading Program!

The 2009 Be Creative@ Your Library Summer Reading Program (SRP) was a big success! The SRP was held June 8th – June 26th, 2009 and July 6th – 24th, 2009. Over 35 Children, Teens and Adults participated in the reading program, turning in reading logs totaling about 85 books. About 200 participants came to the activities. Activities revolved around Art, Music, Theater, and Dance. Mondays were story time days, Tuesdays and Thursdays were art activities, Wednesdays were Wii gaming days, and Fridays were movie days!

Highlights include:
Storytelling with Teddy Duncan
Landscape Art – 3-D Chalk and Painting
Gaming Day at the library– Guitar Hero, Wii Sports and Dance, Dance Revolution
Putting on a play: The Three Little Fishes and the Big Bad Shark
Tahitian Dance Workshop with Anna Maria Havens
Bats At The Library – Visit from the Green Bat
Edible Book Contest

Thanks to everyone who participated! The 3rd Annual Summer Reading Program Fun/Run Walk will be on Saturday, June 5th, 2010 at the Laguna Public Library. The 2010 Summer Reading Program will be June 7th – 25th, 2010 and July 5th – 23rd, 2010. See you then!


Laguna Library Board

The library has a new library advisory board! We are happy to welcome: Clarice Lucero (President), Claudia Douma (Vice-President), Rebecca A. Back To School Books

On behalf of the Laguna Public Library and Association of Library Services to Children (ALSC), we invite all children and teens, to come and choose one (1) book from a collection donated by ALSC. Our goal is to promote literacy throughout the school year. Sign up for a library card and check out a book!

Tribal Libraries Fundraiser

The 2nd Annual Tribal Libraries Fundraiser Dinner and Auction will be held on Saturday, October 10th, 2009 at Route 66 Casino. Tribal librarians in NM have dedicated themselves to continuously provide literacy, technology and information resources in their communities. To provide these much needed resources libraries need additional funding to continue and expand their services at each tribal library.

  • Limit one entry per person or group.
  • Entry must be book related.
  • Entry can be made out of anything as long as it is edible.
  • Entry must be family friendly.
  • Entries are due by 12:00 pm, Friday, July 31st, 2009 at the Laguna Public Library
  • No Registration fee!
  • Prizes will be given out for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.


2nd Annual Fun Run

The 2nd Annual Summer Reading Program Fun Run/Walk was held Saturday, June 6th at the Laguna Public Library.  The turnout was great this year, 35 adults and children, participated.

Door prizes were given out along with books donated from the Association of Library Services for Children (ALSC) and the University of New Mexico Press.

Thanks to everyone who participated and helped kick off the Summer Reading Program! The 3rd Annual Summer Reading Program Fun/Run Walk will be on Saturday, June 5th, 2010 at the Laguna Public Library. See you then!
