Book Club Title April 2009

Book Club Title April 2009

A treasure worth killing for, Sam Spade, a slightly shopworn private eye with his own solitary code of ethics. A perfumed grafter names Joel Cairo, a fat man named Gutman, and Brigid O’Shaughnessy, a beautiful and treacherous woman whose loyalties shift at the drop of a dime. These are the ingredients of Dashiell Hammett’s coolly glittering gem of detective fiction, a novel that has haunted generations of readers.

We will meet on Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at the Laguna Public Library from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm. A few copies of the book are available at the library for check-out. Tribal libraries are always in need of funding to continue providing services to their communities.  Every two years New Mexico has funding for libraries in New Mexico, it is the VOTERS in the communities who decided if the libraries will recieve funding.  For 2008, there is 11 million avaliable for libraries and from this 2 million will go to NM Tribal libraries, which includes the Laguna Public LIbrary.  So vote GO BOND B!

To help bring awareness, the New Mexico State Library would like to heavily promote the importance of voting “YES” to GO BOND B.  The cost to do this is about $60,000 for radio and print advertisement and fundraising efforts has been undertaken by libraries and other organizations.

The Native American Special Libraries Special Interest Group (NALSIG) has pledged to help fundraise for this cause.  Each tribal library has been challenged to raise a minimum of $100 by June 19th.

The Laguna Public LIbrary is holding a raffle to help meet their goal.  Prizes include: A DVD Player, Earrings, Young Reader Book Set, $20.00 gift cards to Dancing Eagle Supermarket, Barnes and Noble, and Walmart, and other great prizes!  Tickets are $1.00 and the drawing will be held Saturday, June 14th.  Please come to the library to purchase a ticket or two and support the Laguna Public Library in meeting this goal!
